HOCKEY PARTICIPATION IN U.S.
DIPS SLIGHTLY FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR
The 2016 edition of the National Sporting Goods Association's Sports Participation in the United States report was released on May 4. For the second straight year, the study showed a slight decline in U.S. ice hockey participation to 3.3 million for ages 7 and older. In 2013 it was 3.5 million and 2014 was 3.4 million.
Participation is defined as someone who participates at least twice per year and can include recreational and/or organized activity. In 2015, it was a very warm year across the United States, which likely influenced slightly lower participation figures.
The 2016 Edition of the Annual Business of Ice Hockey report will be available for Hockey Dealers Association members this summer. It includes detailed participation and cross-participation reports and data on sales of ice hockey equipment. The cost of the Ice Hockey report will be $395 for non-members.
