NCAA FOOTBALL PANTS RULES TAKE EFFECT FOR 2018 SEASON

Rules • August 29, 2018

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA (August 29, 2018) – An NCAA rule requiring football pants with a knee pad cover the player’s knees goes into effect for the 2018 season. Players wearing shorts rather than pants is not acceptable and the NCAA emphasized that coaches must make sure their players are wearing equipment as prescribed by the rules – including regulation knee pads and tailbone protectors.

The rule regarding footbal pants was passed by the NCAA Football Rules Committee at its February 2017 meeting.
