UVEX Sports of Germany has recalled seven models of bicycle helmets because the anchor for the helmet's chinstrap can fail, causing the helmets to slide off the head, posing a head injury hazard. The bicycle helmets also do not comply with impact requirements of the CPSC safety standards for bicycle helmets. The helmets come in a variety of colors with different colored chin straps and have a model number inside the helmet under the fitting pad on the top right side.
The affected helmet model numbers are: XB017, XB022, XB025, XB027, XB032, XB036 and XB038.
No incidents or injuries have been reported but consumers should stop using the helmets and contact UVEX for a free compliant helmet or a refund of the purchase price. The helmets were sold at sporting goods and bicycle specialty shops in the United States from September 2009 through June 2014 for about $100 to $260.
