Ocean Shipping Reform Act of 2021
HR 4996/S 3580
In response to port congestion and supply chain challenges due to COVID-19, this legislation passed the House of Representatives in late 2021. The bill revises provisions related to ocean shipping policies and is designed to support the growth and development of US exports and promote reciprocal trade. It also intends to make the Federal Maritime Commission a more effective federal regulator. It recently was passed for a third time by the House as part of the Coast Guard Reauthorization bill. A similar bill was passed by the Senate in late March 2022. The bills will now move to conference to reconcile the differences.
As a member of the Americans For Free Trade Coalition, NSGA participates in tariff reform and efforts to improve the supply chain which include lobbying and support of the Ocean Shipping Reform Act.
