DOWNERS GROVE, ILLINOIS (May 17, 2024) – NSGA member retailers and dealers may be eligible to claim a portion of a $5.5 billion financial settlement from a class action antitrust lawsuit between US merchants and Visa and Mastercard. If your business accepted those cards between January 1, 2004 and January 25, 2019, you may be eligible.
If you would like to file a claim, go to www.paymentcardsettlement.com, which also has FAQs and information about the settlement process. If you file a claim online, the deadline to submit it has been extended to Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at 11:59 P.M. (Pacific Standard Time), by a court order. The original deadline was May 31 followed by an extension to August 30.
If you are interested in filing a claim and received a Claim Form postcard for this class action lawsuit, do not ignore the postcard because it includes the Claimant ID and Control number for you to use in the online submission of your claim. NSGA Past Chairman David Labbe of Kittery Trading Post in Kittery, Maine, confirmed by entering these two pieces of data, you will automatically see the total transactions, total volume and total interchange fees of Visa and Mastercard that your business processed during this period. In addition, these statistics are also available for each year, should you want to verify these amounts. The remaining steps are simply verification of the person and business filing the claim and you will receive a Claim Confirmation by email.
“It’s so quick, it’s scary,” Labbe said. “It’s very user-friendly.”
Labbe pointed out that when you file a claim you don’t get details on how much you will receive from the settlement. No monetary estimates are provided.
If you did not receive a postcard, click here to submit your Taxpayer Identification Number to begin the process.
