Enshrined in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993, Ann Meyers Drysdale is one of the true pioneers in women’s basketball. In her session, A Pioneer’s View on the Growth of Women’s Athletics, Meyers Drysdale discussed becoming the first high school athlete included on the US National Team, the first woman to sign an athletic scholarship (UCLA), the first woman to sign a contract with an NBA team (Indiana Pacers) and the first woman to broadcast game analysis for an NBA team (Indiana Pacers). Meyers Drysdale reflected on her own experiences as she discusses the growth and popularity of women’s sports, sharing times of ridicule and hardship in lending incredible insight and perspective to the athletes that laid the foundation for the success of female athletes today.
