Combating Organized Retail Crime Act of 2023 (HR 895/S 140)
This bipartisan, bicameral legislation establishes a coordinated multi-agency response and creates new tools to tackle evolving trends in organized retail theft. As part of the bill, a Center to Combat Organized Retail Crime would be established through Homeland Security Investigations that combines expertise from state and local law enforcement agencies as well as retail industry representatives. It also creates new tools to assist in federal investigation and prosecution of organized retail crime and to help recover lost goods and proceeds.
The National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA) supports the passage of the Combating Organized Retail Crime Act and the efforts to curb retail crime, which hurts our members, retailers everywhere and the public.
