NCAA BEACH VOLLEYBALL RULE UPDATES

Rules • October 2, 2018

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA (Sept. 14, 2018) – The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved a requirement in beach volleyball for the visiting team to wear a uniform top that is a contrasting color to the top selected by the home team.

The panel also approved a rule that mandates a referee stand with a platform, podium ladder or platform workstation for each competition court by 2020 for a contest to count. The platform may be attached to a permanently installed net standard or it may be free-standing. The platform should be adjustable in height to allow the referee’s eye position to be approximately 19 inches above the top of the net. It should also be constructed, positioned and padded to present the least possible hazard for players and maximum stability for the referee.

The front and sides of the referee’s platform must be padded to a minimum height of 5 feet, 6 inches with at least a one-half inch of thick resilient, shock absorbing material.
