Models of Easton Hype Fire Baseball Bat Disallowed for Use in Perfect Game Events

DOWNERS GROVE, ILLINOIS (April 11, 2024) – Perfect Game, one of the largest amateur baseball organizations in the country, announced as of April 8, 2024 it was suspending use of Easton Hype Fire bats that are a drop-5 (-5). This only applies to Perfect Game events as USSSA and other sanctioning baseball bodies haven’t banned the Easton Hype Fire. 

Perfect Game released this statement: “Safety and integrity of the game are two major factors at Perfect Game events, and with the implementation of the following changes, we are taking steps to provide an updated and premier experience on the baseball field. Perfect Game is currently investigating the Easton Hype Fire bat (drop-5) for its safety and integrity, even though it is currently still certified by its manufacturer.” 

The suspended bats are: 

• 2023 Easton Hype Fire 2¾-inch barrel USSSA Bat 2024 (-5) 
• 2024 Easton Hype Fire 2¾-inch barrel USSSA Bat 2024 (-5) 
• 30-inch/25-ounces 
• 31-inch/26-ounces 
• 32-inch/27-ounces 

The Easton Hype Fire drop-8 (-8) and drop-10 (-10) are still legal for play in Perfect Game events. 

Easton issued a statement that the Hype Fire drop-5 “meets standards and certifications as determined by USSSA. Perfect Game’s announcement was made without prior discussion or notification to us. 

“Perfect Game’s decision only applies to Perfect Game events. The decision has no impact on our customers and athletes who do not participate in Perfect Game events. As we learn more, we are committed to keeping our customers and athletes informed.”
