Dr. Mary Kelly kicked off the NSGA 2025 Leadership Conference with an opening keynote session on “Leading Your Sporting Goods Business Through Challenges and Changes.” Her presentation on overcoming challenges and embracing change for small businesses in the sporting goods industry was a masterclass in resilience and leadership.

Joel Bines, a consumer and retail expert, delivered a powerful and informational presentation, “Increasing Sales: Relating to the Changing Consumer,” on navigating today’s transformative consumer landscape, in addition to offering strategies for adapting to evolving consumer behaviors.

Tuesday morning got started with an interactive session, “Everyone Wins: Cultivating Stronger Industry Relationships,” led by Nick Rigitano, Director of Insights and Analysis at NSGA. This session details the results of an industry study survey conducted by NSGA from early 2025 and encouraged discussions on buildng meaningful partnerships within the industry.

Tuesday morning wrapped up with the informative session “Shopify: A Unified Commerce Conversation,” featuring Sumer Chawla, Partnerships Lead for Retail and Tess Sharma, Manager for Commercial from Shopify; Kevin Bezanson, President of Cleve’s Source for Sports; Brad Hause, President of Sports Distributors of Canada (SDC) and Nick Rhoads, Production and Distribution Manager, SV Sports. The panelists each discussed their personal experience with the Shopify platform, as well as how retailers, dealers and small businesses can benefit from more options to connect with their consumers.

Kendall Whitley, Vice President of S&S Activewear, honored the life and legacy of sporting goods industry veteran Greg Beckwith by introducing the Greg Beckwith Foundation. The mission of the Greg Beckwith Foundation is to continue “Beck’s” legacy by offering internships for young professionals looking to get started in the sporting goods industry, fostering a more inclusive and dynamic future for the field.
